Studies on the Effects of Baikho-Tang in the Alloxan-diabetic Rats

Abstract
According to the investigation of the Sogal symptoms subscribed in the oriental medical references, it was recognized the symptoms of Chungso as a diabetes. The alloxan diabetes in rats was investigated for effects of the administration of Baikho-Tang and each drug extract in general application.
As a diabetes viias caused by the metabolic derangement on glucose and lipid, the effects of drug administration was compared the experimental groups with the control group an indication to the hypoglycemic effects, the stimulating secretion of insulin, the¢¥-amount of serum triglyceride, the serum total cholesterol contents and the serum transaminase activity. Also considered whether the Baikho-Tang and the each drug have influenced upon the hypoglycemia caused by the administration of insulin in normal rats".and the interaction among the component drugs is investigated through the effects of the particular drugs.
The experimental results obtained were as follows
1, In the case of the increasing of blood sugar level caused by the administration of alloxan, the blood sugar level was significantly decreased by the administration of Baikho-Tang and it was significant.
2. Baikho-Tang stimulated the depressed secretion of insulin caused by the alloxan and the insulin contents of experimental groups were increased as compared with the plasma IRI of control group administrated by the alloxan.
3. In the alloxan diabetes the measurement of lipid concentration in rats is important as a secondary results of the derangement of glucose. Therefore the increased triglyceride contents in serum of alloxan-diabetic rats were significantly decreased as compared with control group by the administration of Baikho-Tang.
4. The amount of serum total cholesterol was not significantly increased by the administration of alloxan, but was nearly recovered normal values in the experimental groups.
5. The activity of serum transaminase was a little increased by the administration of alloxan but the enzyme activity was not decreased by " administration of samples in experimental groups.
6. In the case of the administration bf insulin to normal rats, it lead to remarkable hypoglycemia effect. However if the Baikho-Tang is administered after control of insulin, it is known that it did not cause multiplicative action but intended is prevent crisis hypoglycemia. Therefore it is thought that Baikho-Tang has the ef-fects of decreasing blood sugar in, the hyperglycemic-rats andiincreasing, it zn =they FF hypoglycemic- rats.
7. According to the experimental result of each drug of Baikho-Tang influencing on diabetes caused by alloxan, Anemarrkexae rkizoma,_ Gypsum fibrosum, Orysae, semen, and Glycyrrkizae radix he d blood sugar decreasing action in sequence. Three drugs except Glycyrrkizae radix had more significant effects and Anemarrkenae rkisoma especially had the greatest effect. Auemarrkenae rkizoma and Gypsum fibrosum had significant effect on the amount of total cholesterol, and Asemarrkesae rkizoma had more specific effect. The significance of Anemarrkenae rkizoma and Orysae semen influencing on the activity of serum transaminase was recognized in GOT, and Anemarrkenae rkizoma and Gypsum fibrosum had significant effect in GPT. But it was observed that Bgikho-Tang itself had not influence on the activity of serum transaminase. On the other hand, Anemerrkenes rkisome had the most significant sffect on the amount of serum tryglyceride and Orysse semen had the second signif -ficance.
With the generalization of above mentioned results it is thought that it can be data of presenting the methodology that which objectively prove the working mechanism based on the Kunsinchoasa- theory in oriental prescription.
